      ECO Secretary General Meets with the Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan
      On August 22, 2019, the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour met with Mr. Nu'mon Abdugafforzoda, the Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
      At the outset, Mr. Abdugafforzoda briefed the ECO Secretary General on Tajikistan's tourism development and potential, emphasizing on his government’s priority in the development of tourism sector.
      He added that 2018 as the "Year of Tourism Development and Folk Crafts" and "2019-2021 as the Years of Rural development, Tourism and Folk Crafts in Tajikistan would contribute to the tourism sectoral expansion in the ECO Member States.
      The Committee’s Chair underlined that Tajikistan is famous for its ecological, health, historical, cultural and hunting tourism, deeming it appropriate to share their experiences with other Member States in view of Tajikistan’s continued evolving in tourism. He further stated that holding relevant forum (s), attracting investments in tourism infrastructure and encouraging linkages in this sphere amongst the Member States were the other elements of tourism development. He suggested to convene the next ministerial meeting on tourism on October 3-4, 2019 in Tajikistan.
      The ECO Secretary General underlined that the expansion of tourism is amongst the priorities of organization and an important objective of the ECO Vision 2025.
      H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour, while appreciating the suggestion for hosting Tourism ministerial meeting, emphasized that the meeting of ECO Tourism Ministers which will be convened on October 3-4, 2019 in Khujand city of Tajikistan would play a significant role, paving fresh avenues for further development of tourism in the ECO region. He added that revision of the ‘Tourism Action Plan’ during this meeting would be of great importance in undertaking the required measures for further development of the sector in the Member States.
      Mr. Nu'mon Abdugafforzoda underlined that with a view to be well-prepared for the ECO Tourism Ministers' Meeting, the Tajik side would extend invitations to the ECO Tourism Ministers.
      The two sides reviewed the agenda of the meeting and exchanged views on the necessary arrangements for convening the event in a fruitful manner.
