The Year of Strengthening ConnectivityThe ECO proclaimed 2022 as the Year of Strengthening Connectivity
The Member States of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), have unanimously proclaimed the year of 2022 as the “Year of Strengthening Connectivity” to highlight the crucial role of transport and connectivity and stress their strong will and courage to enhance the regional economic integration through facilitating regional and international transit transport.
The theme of “Strengthening Connectivity”, adopted by the Council of Ministers of the ECO, aims to promote well-developed transport infrastructure, safe, smooth and unhindered cross border transit, digitalized procedures, well-managed integrated road, rail, maritime, air and communication networks and enhanced international interaction for a well-developed Region.
The noble theme of naming 2022 as the “Year of Strengthening Connectivity” in the ECO region was initially proposed by H.E Shavkat Mirziyoyev, honorable President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the 15th ECO Summit held in Ashgabat on November 28, 2021 as the incumbent Chair of the Organization. Pursuant to the above mentioned proposal, the Council of Foreign Ministers of ECO, endorsed the theme and decided to proclaim the Year 2022 as the "Year of Strengthening Connectivity" with the aim of deepening partnership to achieve the mutual goals of making ECO Region a more connected, integrated, competitive and prosperous Region.
