      H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri attends the 78th Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific
      H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri, the Secretary General of ECO, participated in the 78th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held in a hybrid mode on 25 May 2022. This year the Session was organized under the theme of “A common agenda to advance sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific”.

      In his statement, the ECO Secretary General highlighted the core functions of regional organizations in the post COVID-19 socio-economic recovery of their member states and accomplishing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). H.E. Noziri, Particularly, underlined the importance of complimentary role of the sub-regional organizations in achieving a secure and sustainable future for the Asia-Pacific region.
      The ECO Secretary General emphasized on more productive and useful cooperative relations between the ECO and ESCAP towards realization and advancement of mutual goals. In view of the recent MoU concluded between ECO and ESCAP, he invited the ESCAP for a strategic and long-term partnership in the joint projects of infrastructural and socio-economic development in the ECO region in achieving common objectives Asia and the Pacific.

      Earlier in the opening remarks of the Session, the Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Dr. Armida Salsiah, welcomed the participants of the event and stated that recently the ESCAP has enhanced its cooperation with regional organizations in Asia and the Pacific including the ECO. She also mentioned the impediments faced by the region in achieving SDGs in the aftermath of the COVID-19.

      The Session was also attended by H.E. Mr. Ersala Ruwan Weerakoon, Secretary General of the SAARC, H.E. Mr. Zhang Ming, Secretary General of SCO, H.E. Mr. Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman, Eurasian Economic Commission, H. E. Mr. Tenzin Lekphell, Secretary General of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and several other high level dignities.
