Intervention of ECO Secretary General H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri during OSCE Asian Conference 2022
By the invitation of OSCE Secretariat, ECO Secretary General H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri took part virtually in the OSCE Asian Conference 2022 on “Strengthening security for all and by all – synergies and opportunities for co‑operation between Europe and Asia” organized by the Government of Sweden and OSCE in Vienna, Austria, on June 15, 2022.

Representatives of the 57 OSCE participating States, OSCE Asian Partners for Co-operation, international organizations, academia and the private sector have discussed options for strengthened co-operation with a particular focus on the role of women in building confidence, peace and security, climate related challenges to security, and the role of civil society.

ECO Secretary General contributed by intervention in the second session entitled: Climate-related challenges to security and opportunities for co-operation – building on the Stockholm decision.

He highlighted that the region’s climate-related issues are no longer considered just threatening, but a truth that alarms for disaster-prone environmental challenges ahead. Such conditions demand urgent and coherent actions for crafting inclusive, sustainable and resilient climate agenda at global and regional levels.

Having highlighted the sharp inequalities and asymmetries of the global order and their direct and indirect implications in the sphere of development especially on developing countries like ECO Member States, Secretary General particularly emphasized the crucial importance of provision of development assistance in accordance with the commitments made within the UN forums in this regard.

The Secretary General also illustrated Organization's interest to further engage with international partners and important environmental forums for proper implementation of the UN Climate Change Agenda at different levels to tackle its adverse impacts in ECO Region and to enhance cooperation and coordination in line with ECO Vision 2025 for the benefits of all Member States and global community.
