Senior officials from ECO Member States met in Tehran to prepare for the 4th ECO Interior Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to take place on October 28. The session focused on reviewing and finalizing the agenda and working documents to be submitted for ministerial consideration.
Chairing the meeting, H.E. Mr. Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs of Iran, stressed the importance of enhanced regional cooperation to counter human trafficking, cybercrime and other transnational security threats. He noted priorities such as strengthened border infrastructure, intelligence sharing and capacity building in border security management systems.
ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Jandos Asanov highlighted progress in judicial and enforcement collaboration, referring to initiatives including the Plan of Interaction amongst Attorneys/Prosecutors General and the establishment of the ECO Regional Centre for Cooperation of Anti-corruption Agencies and Ombudsmen.
The meeting, inter alia, considered the draft Tehran Declaration and reviewed a report on ECO activities related to regional law enforcement cooperation, including joint efforts against organized cross-border crime and other security challenges.
