      Kenyan Ambassador Visits ECO Secretariat

      The Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Joshua I. Gatimu visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization on December 7, 2022. The purpose of his visit was to understand the functioning of the ECO and share his own exposure of East African Community (EAC) with a view to exploring possibility of future cooperation between the two Organizations.

      The Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran, Mr. Alexander Fedulov visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on December 7, 2022. During his meeting with the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, the issues, ideas and scope of common interest were explored and discussed.

      On December 7, by the invitation of UNESCAP, on behalf of ECO Secretariat, Mr.Rovshan Mirzayev, director for energy, minerals and environment delivered presentation on ECO Regional Electricity Market Project at the Tenth Meeting of the Expert Working Group on Energy Connectivity in UNESCAP.

      High-level Consultative Meeting on “Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management and their Role in Enhancing Monitoring, Impact-based Forecasting, and Early Warning”

      On December 6-7, 2022, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCA), Asian and Pacific Center for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) and Türkiye Disaster and Management Authority (AFAD) organized a High Level Consultative Meeting on “Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management and their Role in Enhancing Monitoring, impact-based Forecasting and Early Warning” in Istanbul. The aim of the Meeting was to elaborate and made recommendations on the enhancement of risk data governance and policy as they are important elements of effective risk reduction and disaster information management.

      On December 1st, 2022, the ECO Secretary General Mr. Khusrav Noziri virtually participated in the seventh session of the Committee on Environment and Development of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Mr. Noziri delivered a statement on behalf of the Organization at the ministerial segment of the Committee under the theme of “protecting our planet through regional cooperation and solidarity in Asia and the Pacific”.

      On November 24, 2022 by the invitation of Asian Development Bank, Secretary General of Economic Cooperation Organization H.E.Mr. Khusrav Noziri took part in the 21st CAREC Ministerial Conference dedicating to the theme of Revitalizing Regional Cooperation for a Green, Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery. Secretary General delivered statement within session allocated for development partners.

      An ECO delegation headed by Mr. Husnu Tekin, Director of the Human Resources and Sustainable Development of the Economic Cooperation Organization, as an observer, participated virtually in Asia-Pacific States Café Service Forum, held on November 21, 2022. The Forum was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) under the theme of "Measuring Economic Loss from Disaster". The Forum was attended by participants from 22 countries including Government, Non-Government and Intergovernmental organizations.
