The 3rd Virtual ECO Training Course on “Primary Prevention of Addiction” Co-organized by Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, University of Tehran and the ECO Secretariat on December 14, 2022. The event was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Türkiye. The Representatives from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Criminal Police Organization also attended to the training course.

The 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Tourism on December 13, 2022 was chaired and hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Delegations from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Türkiye, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan (Host) and the ECO Secretariat attended the Meetings. The 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Tourism was also attended by the delegations of the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) and the Turkish Cypriot State as an observer.

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) celebrated the 30th Anniversary of its Expansion on December 11, 2022. The ECO Day Celebrations were attended by permanent representatives/ambassadors of the member countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps, dignitaries of the host government and some local guests.

The ECO Secretary General, Amb. Khusrav Noziri delivered a video statement during an International Conference “Dialogue – Guarantee of Peace”, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on December 11, 2022.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Joshua I. Gatimu visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization on December 7, 2022. The purpose of his visit was to understand the functioning of the ECO and share his own exposure of East African Community (EAC) with a view to exploring possibility of future cooperation between the two Organizations.

The Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran, Mr. Alexander Fedulov visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on December 7, 2022. During his meeting with the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, the issues, ideas and scope of common interest were explored and discussed.

On December 7, by the invitation of UNESCAP, on behalf of ECO Secretariat, Mr.Rovshan Mirzayev, director for energy, minerals and environment delivered presentation on ECO Regional Electricity Market Project at the Tenth Meeting of the Expert Working Group on Energy Connectivity in UNESCAP.

A two-day High Level Consultative Meeting on “Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management and their Role in Enhancing Monitoring, impact-based Forecasting and Early Warning” was jointly organized by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Asian and Pacific Center for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) and Türkiye Disaster and Management Authority (AFAD). The event, held on December 6-7, 2022 in Istanbul, was to elaborate and make necessary recommendations on Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management

On December 1st, 2022, the ECO Secretary General Mr. Khusrav Noziri virtually participated in the seventh session of the Committee on Environment and Development of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Mr. Noziri delivered a statement on behalf of the Organization at the ministerial segment of the Committee under the theme of “protecting our planet through regional cooperation and solidarity in Asia and the Pacific”.

Economic Cooperation Organization Day is celebrated every year on November 28. On this day in 1992, ECO experienced a grand enlargement.
