The 2nd Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on ECO Agricultural Bio-technology Network was virtually held on October 24, 2023.
Jointly organized by the Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII) and the ECO Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Meeting was attended by the national focal points, experts, researchers and scientists from the ECO member states.
The Meeting was inaugurated by the statements of Dr. Mojtaba Khayam Nekouei Deputy Minister and Director General of Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), Prof. Mohsen Mardi, Director General of Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII) and Mr. Gurkan Polat, Director of Agriculture and Industry Section at ECO Secretariat.
A Report on history and activities of ECO Agricultural Biotechnology Network (ECO-ABN), was presented by the representatives of ABRII. The participants from the Member States shared their country reports on the agricultural biotechnology issues. The Meeting also discussed the ECOBiosafety Capacity Building (ECO-BCB) project proposal aiming at investigating opportunities for furthering collaboration in the region.
