The 8th Meeting of the Customs Transit Committee of the Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) was held on July 19, 2023 in Baku. Hosted by the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ECO Secretariat, the meeting was attended by delegations from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. A delegation from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) also participated at the meeting.
The Deputy Chairman of Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Mr. Javad Gasimov while heading the meeting highlighted Azerbaijan’s progress and achievements towards enhanced facilitation of national and international customs. Moreover, he briefed the participants about a digital platform created for information sharing between the ports of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
Underlining the developments made after the Committee’s last interaction in 2021, the ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Mohsen Esperi emphasized the important role of customs and the necessity of smooth customs procedures to provide conducive and encouraging conditions for enhancing cross-border trade and investments. An added coordination is the prerequisite to harmonize the customs in the region for unimpeded movement of transit vehicles that, he optimistically considered, would substantially boost regional economic integration, he noted.
