Economic Cooperation Organization

The UNECE and ECO Secretariats held bilateral meetings with the members of the “UNECE\ECO Coordination Committee on the Trans Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors”, on 27-28 March 2024.

Representatives of the railway and customs authorities of the en-route countries (namely, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Georgia) as well as officials of the ECO and UNECE Secretariats participated in the virtual consultations under the Chair and Vice-chair of the WP.5 (UNECE Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics).

The consultative meetings reviewed the developments and progress made for implementation of its Program of Work (2023 -2025) inter alia, infrastructure development, digitalization, updating GIS platform, accession to the AGTC and URL conventions. The meeting also identified major priorities of collaboration and important challenges, and discussed the necessary steps to operationalize the corridors. 

Bilateral calls have been organized prior to the next meeting of the UNECE\ECO Coordination Committee on the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran- Istanbul Corridors, which is expected to take place in mid-2024.
