The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, held a bilateral meeting on 2 June 2024 on the sidelines of the Twelfth Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers.
During the meeting, Ambassador Noziri underlined the importance that the ECO attaches to its relationship with the OIC as a peer organization and expressed the desire for further close cooperation between the two organizations to benefit their common member states. ECO Secretary General also appreciated the positive contributions of the OIC and its subsidiary organizations in improving the economic development through assistance in various projects and initiatives of the ECO particularly in the areas of transport, communications and agriculture.
The Secretary Generals stressed the importance of continuation of practice regarding participation of both Secretariats in each Organization’s main events, like summits and meetings of Council of Ministers. Highlighting the observer status that ECO was granted in OIC, the sides agreed to update the Memorandum of Understanding between ECO and OIC, signed on 30 September 1994, to reflect the dynamics of development in their bilateral relations.
