ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, on June 10, 2024, held a bilateral meeting with Madam Armida Salsia, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The two sides discussed enhancing collaboration between ECO and UNESCAP, focusing on sustainable development, regional cooperation and disaster risk reduction. Ambassador Noziri praised the strong relationship between the organizations and expressed his intention to reinforce it by extending their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and jointly implementing it in 2025.

The Secretary General thanked UNESCAP for its dedication to regional progress and invited Madam Salsia to the 1st SDG Forum in Turkmenistan, hoping for UNESCAP’s active contribution. He highlighted the successful collaboration with APDIM and emphasized the need for continued cooperation on joint projects like energy transport and disaster risk reduction.

Madam Salsia expressed her desire for increased collaboration, proposed a team to extend the existing MoU, and confirmed UNESCAP’s readiness to join projects on disaster risk reduction, energy, and other SDGs.

Held on the sidelines of the Third International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, the meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthen the partnership between ECO and UNESCAP for the benefit of the region and beyond.
