ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan, Secretary General had a bilateral meeting with the Director of Asia Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) – ESCAP Ms. Letizia Rossano.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged ideas about fostering closer cooperation on disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the ECO Region.
Highlighting that ECO Region is one of the most disaster-prone regions in the world, including sand and dust storms, earthquakes, floods etc., Secretary General Khan thanked APDIM for their ongoing supports on DRR related issues and requested the continuation of their support in this respect. He also invited APDIM for a presentation in a future CPR meeting on their activities, as well as proposals regarding the ECO Regional Framework on DRR which is to be revised in 2025.
Briefing the Secretary General about APDIM’s works, Ms. Letizia Rossano noted that DDR issues are common challenges in the region and requires collective actions of all stakeholders to address them. Emphasizing APDIM’s capacity to facilitate collaboration on DRR in the region, she conveyed their readiness to cooperate with ECO Member States in this regard.
