One of the major impediments in boosting intra and inter regional trade are complex and cumbersome Customs laws and procedures which are considered a form of Non-Tariff Barriers. The 8th meetings of Council of Heads of Customs Administration (CHCA) and the 4th Sub-Committee of Experts of Customs (SCOE) were held from 13-14 November 2017 at Islamabad. As a result, the Agreement on Establishment and Operations of ECO Smuggling and Customs Offences Data Bank has been operationalised. Among others, it was decided that since there was need for ECO Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and a meeting in this regard will be held soon. It was also decided in the meeting to amend the MOU on Customs Cooperation between ECO and World Customs Organization (WCO).
The Republic of Turkey has announced to hold the 9th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Customs Administration (CHCA) and 5th Meeting of the ECO Customs Cooperation Council (ECO-CCC) in Ankara in last quarter of 2018.
