Represented by HRSD directorate, a delegation of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) participated in the opening ceremony of the “Regional Educational and Research Center (RERC) on Earthquake Risk Management and Resilience for West and Central Asia”.
Held on March 14, 2023 at the International Research Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering, the event was attended by academics and staff of the RERC, host government officials, personnel of the UN offices in Iran as well as representatives of the countries in western and central Asian regions.
Sponsored by UNESCO, the RERC is aimed at assisting the governments of the region to develop roadmap and comprehensive plan to mitigate the effects of earthquakes by identifying hazards, building safer structures, providing education to promote public awareness and specialized knowledge in the region, expanding multinational cooperation for implementation of joint educational projects and activities, including the related earthquake exercises.
