At the request of the DRR authorities of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, a joint mission by ECO and UNESCAP is now in Kabul for a needs assessment and training exercise.
Representatives from ECO and ESCAP Secretariats along with experts from some Member States are involved in this mission. The Head of the UNESCO Office in Tehran has also joined the mission.
During the 2-day arrangement, the joint mission makes discussions with relevant Afghani DRR stakeholders on areas of priority for actions. The Members of the mission will also meet with the relevant UN agencies and other international organizations based in Kabul. They will also train in the “National consultation workshop on disaster management system in Afghanistan” on 21st February 2017.
