On 14 December 2021 the 32nd Meeting of Energy Charter Conference was held virtually and hosted by the Republic of Armenia. ECO has been an observer in the Energy Charter since 2017. At the meeting, among other issues, report for 2021 and Future Outlook by the Secretary General, Reports of the Subsidiary and Working Groups of the Conference and the Industry Advisory Panel were presented. Also was discussed the modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty.
Participating in the meeting on behalf of the ECO Secretariat, the ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Dr. Huseyin Avni Bicakli noted the important role of ECO’s cooperation with the Energy Charter in the field of energy development in the region.He stressed that the ECO countries are beginning to actively develop the use of renewable energy sources and one of the key steps in this direction is the creation of a Clean Energy Center in Baku. He also pointed out the importance of establishing ECO Regional Electricity Market and noted that the Energy Charter is a key partner of ECO in the implementation of this project.
