Economic Cooperation Organization

ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met on the sidelines of 16th ECO Summit scheduled for November 9, 2023 in Tashkent.

Held on November 8, the meeting discussed prospects of maximum cooperation in the region, especially in trade, connectivity, energy, tourism and agriculture sectors. Given the identical nature of region’s historical and cultural values, the two sides underscored that all member countries should be increasingly cooperative and forthcoming to accelerating the process of regional economic integration, particularly through their consolidated actions and efforts. In this regard, they urged the necessity of establishing strong intra-regional connectivity by all means of transportation, including air, road and railway links.

Regarding regional trade, both sides stressed the need for an expedited implementation of ECO Trade Agreement, considering it to be a steering source to volumize the intra-regional trade and jack up region’s share to the global trade.

Furthermore, they brought various other issues under discussion, especially some close regional conflicts which, the two sides believed, are the most obvious impediments in smooth materialization of their ambitious economic aims and objectives.
