The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri called on the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The two sides during their interaction on October 21, 2021 touched upon certain areas of ECO engagements and activities, including the progress and achievements of the Organization in the recent years.

The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri called on the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The two sides during their interaction on October 21, 2021 touched upon certain areas of ECO engagements and activities, including the progress and achievements of the Organization in the recent years.
The ECO Secretary General, while encapsulating some of the most important features, capacity and potential of the region, acknowledged the significant role and contribution of the member countries for their collective progress and prosperity. He appreciated and thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting and facilitating the ECO Secretariat as well as its staff, noting that Iran’s receptive and supportive approach has extensively helped promote the agenda of the Organization in the greater regional interest. The Secretary General also updated the honourable Minister on preparations of 15th ECO Summit to be preceded by 25th Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) scheduled for the last week of November 2021. He hoped highest level of participation from all Member States that, he optimistically believed, would enable the Organization to achieve the intended goals, aimed at pushing the overall process of socioeconomic wellbeing in the region.

The honourable Foreign Minister thanked the Secretary General for the foregoing briefing, reassuring him of Iran’s continued support to shoulder the Organization’s objectives of joint economic development and betterment of the member countries. Moreover, he appeared pleased and satisfied to observe the notable progress on several important ECO projects, including in the fields of transport, energy and trade. He further expressed optimism that the scheduled Summit and the Ministerial Meetings would be beneficial to fortify the existing ties amongst the Member States, paving some fresh avenues to move forward for future developments in the region.

In addition, the two sides looked into some important regional issues, especially the recent developments in Afghanistan.
