The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri met with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani on January 10, 2023. Held on the sidelines of the 27th COM Meeting in Shusha, the meeting explored certain ways and means to increase regional economic cooperation with enhanced coordination and collaboration amongst the ECO Member States.

Appreciating the ECO initiatives taken to boost economic activities in the region, the Honourable Minister emphasized the need for an early implementation of ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) which is aimed at consolidating intra-regional trade through development of some preferential arrangements. He reaffirmed Pakistan continued support to ECO and all its endeavours for ensuring strong regional economic connectivity and integration.

Seconding the views expressed by Foreign Minister Jilani, ECO Secretary General considered the implementation of ECOTA quite essential to facilitate and jack up trade activism in the region. In this regard, he desired the member countries to be mutually receptive and forthcoming so that the long-awaited implementation of the document may positively be ensured. In addition, Ambassador Noziri underlined some other progressive approaches of the Organization towards strengthening regional cooperation, especially in transport, energy, tourism, food and agricultural sectors.
