The 3rd Meeting of ECO Working Group on Tourism Standardization was held virtually on August 2, 2023 under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan and with participation of tourism and standardization experts from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Inaugurating the meeting, Mr. Jasur Rajabov, Director for Tourism of the ECO Secretariat briefed the participants about current state of activities. He stressed that previous two meetings had provided a convenient platform for joint discussion of regional tourism standardization, including cooperation opportunities with international organizations such as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
The meeting agreed that common tourism standards in the ECO region could be developed on the basis of international standards such as ISO and GSTC criteria as well as the national standards which are currently applied by the Member States. The Working Group also began drafting Common Criteria on Sustainability for Accommodation Facilities in the ECO Region.
The next meeting of the group will be held on September 26, 2023.
