The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri held a meeting with the UN Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Dr. Tatiana Molcean, on February 20, 2024 in the UN Headquarters in Geneva.
The meeting reviewed the joint projects between the two organizations, i.e the joint ECO\UNECE Coordination Committee on Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran- Istanbul Corridors, GIS Project, promotion of e-TIR, e-CMR and digitalization of transport.
Ambassador Noziri highlighted the long lasting cooperation between the organizations, particularly in the transport sector, while also underlined that the ECO\UNECE Coordination Committee stands as a very important initiative for sustainable cooperation in transport and connectivity.
Dr. Molcean commended the constructive cooperation between ECO and UNECE in various sectors and expressed the strong willingness of UNECE for more active partnership with ECO for materialization of the goals of decarbonization of inland transport.
Opportunities for cooperation on climate change and food security issues and their dire consequences were also discussed during the meeting.
