Mr. Atta Muhammad Murtaza Durrani, Head of Delegation International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) visited the ECO Secretariat on May 14, 2023.
The bilateral interaction between Mr. Durrani and the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri mulled over the conceptual perspectives on disaster risk management, including disaster-related statistics as well as the mission of IFRC and the role of Iran Red Crescent for collaboration and coordination in disaster and emergency situations in the region. A number of cases concerning the measurement of economic losses from disasters were also discussed.
Mr. Durrani, on behalf of the President of Red Crescent of Islamic Republic of Iran, proposed holding a high level meeting on related matters with participation of representatives from the ten ECO member states.
Acknowledging risk reduction disaster management as one a priority issue in ECO’s agenda, the Secretary General welcomed the proposal for collaboration. He appreciated the role of Iran Red Crescent and stressed that and interaction such as a joint ECO-IFRC Senior Officials Meeting could be an efficient venue for stronger collaboration.
