Economic Cooperation Organization

The Economic Cooperation Organization and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) conducted the Joint Workshop on the Safety of Transporting and Handling Containers and Other Cargo Transport Units (CTUs) with assistance of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan and Aktau  Seaport Administration on 20-21 September 2023 in the port of Aktau.

The workshop extensively discussed the CTU Code, its structure, roles and responsibilities for cargo packing and handing, matching types of cargo, commodities and packaging with appropriate loading methods with necessary security levels, as well as simulation tests. The Workshop also provided the participants with theoretical as well as practical activities in real-life cases of correct inside-container cargo strapping and handling at Aktau Seaport facilities. Sharing their experiences, the participates desired continuation of such events, that could concentrate also on large open sea ports and landlocked airports as well.

The CTU Code applies to transport operations throughout the entire intermodal transport chain and provides guidance to parties responsible for packing and securing cargo, as well as for receiving and unpacking such units.

Participants from Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Georgia, Russian Federation, Republic of Uzbekistan and Republic of Tajikistan took part in the Workshop.
