On November 24, 2022 by the invitation of Asian Development Bank, Secretary General of Economic Cooperation Organization H.E.Mr. Khusrav Noziri took part in the 21st CAREC Ministerial Conference dedicating to the theme of Revitalizing Regional Cooperation for a Green, Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery. Secretary General delivered statement within session allocated for development partners.
Secretary General underscored importance of conducting efficient reforms to enable developing countries for better access to adequate finance which is requisite for the implementation of the SDGs. He also added that regional and subregional coordination can help build and restore resilience in supply chains. While emphasizing on the enhancing regional cooperation and policy coordination on air pollution, climate change, biodiversity conservation, water resources management and land degradation he highlighted that strengthening of regional normative frameworks to deal with transboundary risks and strengthen environmental resilience is another opportunity represented by COVID crunch.
Mr.Noziri revealed vision of revitilazation of regional cooperation within forging a stronger consensus on green growth and climate-resilient development cooperation and bolstering the drivers for sustainable development. He called audience for centering regional cooperation on five lines of efforts, namely trade and investment liberalization and facilitation through boosting connectivity, industrialization, digitization, low-carbon development and agricultural modernization.
The key participants of event were the ministers of CAREC member countries, the President of ADB, and high-level representatives of development partners. In addition to the dialogue with international partners the conference’s objective was to seek ministerial guidance on the CAREC 2030 implementation and endorsement of the 2022 CAREC deliverables.
