The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, who is visiting Uzbekistan in connection with the 7th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Karimzoda Saadi Gafor on July 5, 2022. The informally held bilateral interaction was meant to discuss cooperation on agriculture and food security issues in the region.

The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Karimzoda Saadi Gafor on July 5, 2022. The informally held bilateral interaction was meant to discuss cooperation on agriculture and food security issues in the region.

Acknowledging Tajikistan’s supportive approach to promote ECO’s agenda of agricultural development in the region, the Secretary General emphasized that there is a need for more coordination and collaboration amongst the Member States to expeditiously accomplish the ECO’s envisaged targets in the sector. He noted that technology is very important in agriculture production, adding that the region’s adaptation with technological advancement can ensure smooth implementation of Organization’s overall agenda.

The honourable Minister reiterated Tajikistan’s continued support to ECO within its cooperative framework. He underscored the importance of Member States’ increased collaboration on sharing of knowledge, expertise and agriculture machinery. The training of the farmers is also very important to meet the region’s development targets in agriculture sector, the Minister underlined.

The two sides agreed to encourage amicable working environment in the region, especially within the context of emerging global and regional scenarios that could endanger the conditions for overall food security.
