Attending the 79th UNGA Session, Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, H.E. Rashid Meredov.
Foreign Minister Meredov congratulated Dr. Khan on his appointment as Secretary General of the Organization and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s strong support for ECO initiatives, particularly in the areas of transport connectivity and tourism. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s intention to enhance its engagement in ECO frameworks for regional cooperation, including the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA). Additionally, he emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to sustainable development, citing the First Global Sustainable Transport Conference held in Ashgabat and the Arkadag sustainable city project as notable achievements.
Secretary General Khan expressed his gratitude to the Minister for his dedicated attention to ECO’s regional cooperation initiatives. He acknowledged Turkmenistan’s strategic significance in relation to the ECO rail corridors, and expressed congratulations on the 300th anniversary of the renowned Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi, confirming his participation in the commemorative event.
