The ECO Regional Planning Council (RPC) finished its 4-day deliberations on the activities of the Economic Cooperation Organization on 25 January 2024. 

The Sectoral Committees of the RPC held interactive meetings in hybrid format, with active participation of delegations of the ECO Member States, ECO Specialized Agencies, Regional Institutes and Affiliated Bodies, as well as the Turkish Cypriot State as an ECO observer.

In the closing session of the event the RPC endorsed and adopted the recommendations of the sectoral committees on Annual Work Program and Calendar of Events for 2024, concerning activities in the sectors of i) Trade & Investment, ii) Energy, Minerals and Environment, iii) Transport and Communications, iv) Agriculture and Industry, v) Human Resources and Sustainable Development, vi) Tourism, vii) Judicial and Parliamentary Coordination and EAPA, viii) Economic Research and Statistics, and ix) ECO’s International Relations.

In his closing remarks, while thanking and commending the Sectoral Committees for effectively accomplishing their deliberations and making the 34th Regional Planning Council Meeting a successful event, the Secretary General highlighted that despite the emerging global and regional challenges, the Economic Cooperation Organization remains determined for fulfilling its mandate to foster regional economic cooperation. He also noted that the 34th RPC Meeting would greatly contribute to the success of the chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Iran within the framework of the proposed theme “Enhanced and Resilient ECO Region through Expansion of Intra-Regional Trade” throughout 2024.
