The 4th Virtual Training Course titled “Drug Addiction, Focusing on Treatment and Harm Reduction Associated with Addiction” was jointly organized by Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the University of Tehran and the ECO Secretariat on February 19, 2024. The event was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Türkiye and Turkmenistan.
The main objective of the training program specifically aimed to provide awareness to the participants towards principles for the treatment of drug use disorders in order to prevent drug addiction.
Welcoming the participants the ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Jandos Asanov underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran has initiated a significant awareness campaign on drugs and related issues, focusing on addiction prevention, harm reduction and treatment. He informed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will hold the 5th training course on this subject in 2024.
Dr. Hamidreza Rafeipour Tehrani, the Director of the International Law Department of the Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran highlighted the need of effective and expanded cooperation amongst the Member States in the relevant area of activities, and elaborated on the measures and experiences of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards treatment of drug use disorders. The course also included presentations by professionals including Dr. Ali Shafei, Dr. Sahar Eshrati, Dr. Mohsen Roushanpajouh, Dr. Mohammadreza Haddadi, and Dr. Houman Narenjiha.
