The 7th Meeting of ECO Permanent Steering Committee on Economic Research (EPSCER) was held on June 5, 2024 in virtual mode.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Dolores Tyulebekova, Director of the World Economy Research Centre of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In her opening remarks the Chairperson noted that the Economic Research Committee needs to focus on the priorities and objectives that have been expressed by the Member States at the recent summits and other important events of the Organization.
Mr. Ehsan Movahedian, Deputy Head of International Relations Office, Plan and Budget Organization made a presentation on the Iranian Chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization under the theme “Enhanced and Resilient ECO Region through expansion of Intra-Regional Trade”.
Further, the delegates were briefed about the content of ECO Annual Economic Report 2023, and discussed the pace of establishment of ECO Economic Research Centre (ECO-ERC) in Baku and transformation of ECO Economic Journal as part of ECO-ERC.
ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Jandos Asanov and Ms. Sabina Mammadli, Head of Foreign Economic Relations Department of the Economic Scientific Research Institute (ESRI), Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan briefed the meeting about the planned 3rd ECO Think-Tank Forum to be held on October 4, 2024 in Baku.
The meeting also requested the ECO Secretariat to prepare the draft of a new ECO Economic Research Programme for the period from 2026 to 2030 in line with current priorities and objectives of the ECO Member States.
