On April 24, 2025 the 8th International Conference “Risk Management in Energy – 2025” was organized online by the Institute for Energy and Finance Foundation of the Russian Federation. The conference brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including the representatives of governments, international organizations, IFIs, businesses and academia.
ECO Secretary General, Dr. Asad M. Khan delivered a statement in the Plenary Session of the event titled “Tectonic Shifts in the Global Energy Market in terms of the Multi-Vector Energy Transition”. In his address, Dr. Khan focused on the regional outlook and ECO’s vision on sustainable energy transition, as well as on the crucial role that regional organizations like ECO can play in advancing this eye-catching global process.
The Secretary General highlighted that the unlocking the cross-border and regional connectivity potential for renewables stand high on ECO’s agenda as a contributor to regional energy security, resilience and reduction in energy sector carbon emissions. He underscored the need to reduce regulatory, technical and economic barriers to develop and trade in the diverse range of available low carbon energy resources.
The Secretary General further briefed about the status and prospects of the ongoing energy projects of ECO, including the establishment of the ECO Regional Electricity Market (ECO-REM) and Clean Energy Centre, as well as on green energy corridors and power interconnectors shaping the energy architecture of the region. He stated that all these developments manifest that the regional transition journey has started even though we still have to overcome a multiplicity of challenges in this pathway. In this vein, the Secretary General expressed his confidence on the urgent need to mobilize investment at scale, and ensure finance is accessible and affordable where it is needed the most.
