The Foreign Secretary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, accompanied by the Ambassador of Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Rahim Hayat Qureshi visited the ECO Secretariat on June 18, 2023.
Welcoming the dignitary, the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri briefed him about the ECO agenda and activities, providing updates on the upcoming ECO Summit and the Council of Ministers Meeting, as well as other important events to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session in New York.
Noting that the ECO Region has common historical and cultural roots, Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan stressed that the region had yet to exploit its full potential of cooperation for development. ECO could play an instrumental role in bridging the positions of the Member States in various sectors, creating the synergy to realize the tremendous potential of the region, he added.
Informing that the Government of Pakistan is keenly interested to promote multilateralism at every regional and global forum, he expressed the country’s support to the Organization as well as their desire for stronger connectedness and cooperation amongst the Member States, especially in trade and customs.
The meeting continued with a working lunch, where both sides agreed on the importance of enhancing ECO’s role as an efficient multilateral economic platform and promoting international visibility of the Organization.
