The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri is visiting the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with his participation in the “International Conference on Food Security” scheduled for September 7-8, 2023 in Samarkand.
Inaugurating the event, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Abdulla Aripov delivered the message of the Honorable President of Uzbekistan, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev where he underlined the severe effects of Covid-19 pandemic on food security of developing countries and the importance of achieving the SDGs for the welfare of both developing and developed countries.
The FAO Director General H.E. Mr. Qu Dongyu emphasized on Silk Road’s potentials, drawing attention of the participants to increasing food prices and obstacles to food availability, accessibility and affordability.
The ECO Secretary General emphasized the necessity to achieve food security and improve nutrition while noting the globally escalating food prices with a considerable number countries experiencing double digit inflation. He reaffirmed ECO’s commitment to achieving SDG’s Goal 2 that envisages Zero Hunger by 2030. He added that ECO Secretariat in collaboration with ECO Regional Coordination Center for Food Security (ECO-RCCFS) and in line with ECO Regional Program for Food Security (ECO-RPFS) is ardently pursuing shared food security targets, along with making rigorous efforts for resilience building to meet any future shocks and food security challenges in the region.
Eight technical sessions were held within the framework of the Conference, organized jointly by Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO).
