Economic Cooperation Organization

On the initiative of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA), a virtual videoconference was held between the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Khusrav Noziri and the Secretary General of the ALBA, H.E. Mr. Sacha Llorenti on November 02, 2021 to discuss and explore the opportunities for cooperation between the two organizations.

On the initiative of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA), a virtual videoconference was held between the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Khusrav Noziri and the Secretary General of the ALBA, H.E. Mr. Sacha Llorenti on November 02, 2021 to discuss and explore the opportunities for cooperation between the two organizations.

The two sides broadly exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. The Secretary General of the ALBA briefed the ECO Secretary General about the background and activities of the ALBA in various fields. Mr. Llorenti mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic has enhanced the importance of cooperation among different regional blocs and organizations in order to address this multi-dimensional challenge.

The ECO Secretary General, while acknowledging the briefing of the ALBA Secretary General, appreciated the activities of ALBA for enhancing cooperation among its Member States. He stated that ECO is a geo-economic organization comprising 10 Member States from South, West and Central Asia and relationships among the Member States of the organization are based purely on economic cooperation. Ambassador Noziri informed the Secretary General of ALBA about the main decision making Organs of the ECO. He also highlighted the strategic goals of the ECO Vision 2025 in six priority areas of cooperation.

In their concluding remarks, the two sides expressed desire to continue the process of mutual consultations in future for exploring the ways and means for establishing the cooperative relations between the two regional organizations.
