The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri met with the Secretary General of IRU (International Road Transport Union) Mr. Umberto de Pretto, on 19 February, 2024 in Geneva.
The meeting reviewed the ongoing and future cooperation in the international and regional context between the two organizations and discussed further areas for interaction.
Ambassador Khusrav Noziri expressed high satisfaction with the current status of relations between two Organizations and appreciated IRU for active cooperation in conduction of joint transport projects and programs. He also highlighted that the world is moving towards decarbonization in inland transport and it is highly important for the region to be prepared for the future, adopting the sustainable policies and technologies particularly for road transport.
The Secretaries General also discussed jointly organizing capacity building programs and training courses on border crossing facilitation and implementation of TIR convention as well as moving towards eTIR, and expansion of cooperation on digitalization and decarbonization of road transport.
