ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri participated in the 3rd High-Level Meeting of International Organizations, convened within the framework of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku on May 1, 2024.

Organized under the theme of “Sustainable Pathways for a Greener Future: Collaborative Actions for COP29 and Beyond,” the meeting brought together heads and high-ranking officials from regional and international organizations, including representatives of UN agencies.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mukhtar Babayev, in his opening remarks, urged stronger collaborative actions of international organizations and multilateral development banks to secure achievement towards sustainable development goals. These institutions should prioritize financing urgent measures concerning climate change, increasingly threatening livelihoods and food security, he added. Azerbaijan, hosting the crucial COP29 event in November 2024, wishes for stronger ownership and effective actions by governments, he said.

Ambassador Noziri briefed the meeting about the dangers that the ECO region faces due to climate change. Noting the region’s rich endowments in renewable energy resources, he further informed about the projects that ECO has been pursuing in this regard, particularly the ECO Clean Energy Center and the ECO Regional Electricity Market projects, as well as its partnerships with other international organizations.
