ECO Program Officer for Transport & Communications, Mr. Zeinolla Kalymbetov, participated in the Fifth Meeting of the UNECE/ECO Coordination Committee on the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors.

The event brought together UNECE Sustainable Transport Division officers, representatives from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan, as well as FIATA association and an independent expert Professor Rainer Freise.

The event’s key discussions focused on transport infrastructure improvements, the benefits of the URL Convention and the importance of climate change adaptation for transport systems. Participants reviewed pilot tests, evaluated geocoded data on ITIO-GIS.org, and explored opportunities for digitalization and harmonization of transport documents. Special attention was given to paperless solutions in the railway sector, with valuable insights shared by representatives from Kazakhstan and Türkiye.

The meeting emphasized the strategic importance of modernizing and coordinating transport efforts across these key corridors, aiming to enhance efficiency, sustainability and resilience in regional transport networks.
