On the sidelines of the 24th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Astana, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Ambassador Khusrav Noziri held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
Ambassador Noziri expressed profound gratitude to Chairman Sagintayev for proposing this bilateral meeting and demonstrating a strong interest in formalizing the relationship between the ECO and the EEC.
During the discussion, Ambassador Noziri highlighted the shared goals and commonalities between the two organizations, emphasizing that Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic are concurrent members of both. He also underscored the significance of Kazakhstan’s upcoming chairmanship of the ECO in 2025, noting its strategic role in bridging two vital regions. The conversation further explored mutual interests in transport and connectivity, identifying these as key areas for enhanced cooperation.
Both leaders expressed optimism about the future of this cooperation, envisioning a dynamic partnership that will contribute to the prosperity and development of the member states. The meeting also agreed on conducting regular online consultations, and drafting a Memorandum of Understanding to institutionalize the ties between the ECO and the EEC.
