On the sidelines of the 79th UNGA Session, ECO Secretary General Ambassador Dr. Asad Majeed Khan met with the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Jeenbek Kulubayev.
Foreign Minister Kulubayev congratulated Dr. Khan on his appointment, expressing confidence in his leadership to advance regional economic cooperation within the ECO. He highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s priorities for boosting trade and connectivity, noting the renewed momentum gained from the 16th ECO Summit in Tashkent.
Thanking Kyrgyzstan for the important contributions that it makes in advancing ECO objectives, Ambassador Khan noted that ECO is a pioneer in development cooperation in a region with several commonalities among its Member States. Secretary General briefed the honorable Minister about his priorities for the Organization. In addition to trade and connectivity, he emphasized tourism as a pivotal sector that can support people-to-people interactions in the region, which has great untapped tourism potential. Further he informed that he would focus on consolidating and implementing the understandings reached within ECO.
