Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan met with H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr. Khan underscored the pivotal role of the ECO within the OIC, recalling that all ECO member states are also members of the OIC. He highlighted ECO’s pioneering role in promoting regional economic development, proposing ECO-OIC joint initiatives and projects to strengthen their inter-regional cooperation, a crucial component of effective multilateralism. Dr. Khan also recommended the exchange of focal points between the two organizations to ensure sustained communication and collaboration.

Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha welcomed the proposals, expressing his readiness to receive them formally and assuring the OIC’s active support and contributions.

This meeting marks a renewed commitment to fostering closer collaboration between the ECO and OIC, laying the groundwork for enhanced regional and multilateral partnerships.
