ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan arrived in Mashhad on February 19, for a two-day official visit within the framework of strengthening regional diplomacy and developing provincial cooperation, upon invitation of the Iran Government.
During his meeting with the Governor of Khorasan Razavi, Mr. Gholam Hossein Mozaffari, the Secretary General expressed his appreciation to the governor and the people of Masshad for the hospitality during the 28th Council of Ministers Meeting of ECO, held in Mashhad, on December 3, 2024.
Noting that Mashhad, as a transit center for the ECO region, will be hosting the upcoming ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport, he further expressed keenness to closely work with the government of Mashhad to make the upcoming meeting a successful event for advancing regional connectivity.
During his meeting with the members of the Transport Committee of Masshad Chamber of Commerce, Secretary General Khan noted that the growing political desire to integrate the region is conducive to realizing milestone achievements within the ECO regional connectivity framework, in line with the aspirations of the ECO member states. Highlighting the importance of engagement with the business community, he further expressed ECO’s readiness for a more closer engagement with the private sector. The meeting also featured a presentation by the Chamber of Commerce outlining challenges and priorities in the transport sector.
In the framework of his visit to Masshad, the Secretary General will also be visiting the province’s technology development centers, Sarakhs Special Economic Zone, and the province’s infrastructure capacities, especially in the field of transportation, in connection with preparations for the upcoming ECO Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Mashhad.
