The 10th Meeting of the Road Committee of Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) was held virtually on 5th July, 2022 in Tehran co-organized by the ECO Secretariat and Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization.

The 10th Meeting of the Road Committee of Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) was held virtually on 5th July, 2022 in Tehran co-organized by the ECO Secretariat and Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Member States namely the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran (host), the Republic of Kazakhstan, the the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Türkiye and Republic of Uzbekistan. The representative of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) also participated at the meeting.

Mr. Akbar Khodaei, Director of Transport and Communications of the ECO Secretariat in his welcoming remarks elaborated the challenges and opportunities of the road transport industry during the Covid Pandemic and highlighted that the menace of the Pandemic underlined the vital role of the road transport in sustainable food security and the supply chain in the world. He also outlined the arrangements of the Secretariat after the outbreak of the Covid 19, including preparation and circulation of the “ECO Practical Guidelines on Cross Border Facilitation Measures under Conditions of Covid-19” to help ease the truck movements to ensure that all the Member States maintain access to food and medicals during the hard times, joint project with UNECE and IsDB to promote the eTIR and eCMR in the region and cooperating with the IRU on digital TIR pilot project in the ITI Road Corridor.

He further elaborated the major achievements in ECO region particularly in operationalization of the ITI and KTAI Corridor, the ECO Visa Pilot Scheme, establishment of the TIR Associations Consultative Group (ECO-TIRACG) and so on.

The Director also emphasized on the development of the road transport in the current “Year of strengthening Connectivity” and implementation of initiatives that further facilitates the transport operations.

In his final remarks Mr. Khodaei appreciated the international partners particularly IsDB, UNECE, UNESCAP and IRU for their highly important contributions to the development of transport in ECO region.

The Road Committee along with other technical committees (Railway, Customs, Visa and Insurance) have been established under Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) to address implementation of the provisions of Transit Transport Framework Agreement.
