The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Khusrav Noziri is visiting the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with attending the 22nd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) scheduled to be held at Samarkand on September 15 ,“ 16, 2022. On the sidelines of his visit, the ECO Secretary General had a bilateral interaction with the UN Undersecretary General and the Executive Secretary of the UNESCAP, H.E. Ms. Armida Salasiah Alisjahbana.
While expressing pleasure over his meeting with the UN dignitary, the Secretary General briefed her on some developments in the ECO, including the Organization’s recently adopted project-oriented approach which is mainly aimed at making large, medium and small scale development in the region. Underlining the importance of their cooperative partnership, he acknowledged the UNESCAP’s technical support to ECO specifically for the development of some important projects on regional connectivity. He continued that trade and connectivity remain on top of their regional agenda, mentioning that the ECO has, relevantly, declared the 2022 as the “year of Strengthening Connectivity” in the region. Since this year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Organization’s enlargement, the ECO intends to invite its cooperative partners as well as observers to attend the 26th Meeting of ECO Council of Ministers (COM) to be held in the last week of November 2022 at Tashkent, the Secretary General informed. In this regard, he requested the UNESCAP’s Executive Secretary to grace the ECO ministerial event with her participation as a special guest.
The UNESCAP’s Executive Secretary thanked Ambassador Noziri and realized the significance of ECO’s transformation for being more progressive and result-based economic forum. She reassured her complete cooperation to support ECO efforts and activities for continuing the regional development process, adding that the two sides can further collaborate and jointly conduct the feasibility studies on some mutually beneficial projects.
