The ECO Task Force Meeting on development of the “ECO Five-Year Roadmap on Minerals Cooperation for 2026-2030” was held virtually on September 24, 2025. The meeting brought together representatives of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan and Tajikistan.

While briefing about the background and objectives of the Roadmap, Dr. Fuad Farzalibeyov, ECO Director for Energy, Minerals, and Environment highlighted that its adoption will mark a milestone towards streamlining and coherence of the regional cooperation in the minerals sector. 

The bulk of discussion focused on key action areas and priorities of the roadmap designed by ECO Secretariat, namely sustainable management of mineral resources, multi-stakeholder approach, minerals database and information, creating stronger regulatory environment, capacity-building and public awareness-raising and international partnerships.

The meeting overwhelmingly underscored the importance of the earliest finalization of the Roadmap so that to pave the way for its implementation from 2026. 

The Roadmap represents the first-ever overarching and all-inclusive framework document for regional cooperation within ECO in the field of minerals capturing mid- and long-term perspective.
