On 18 November, the Iran National Standards Organization (INSO) held a virtual training workshop on conformity assessment as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen quality infrastructure in the ECO region. The workshop featured two sessions: “Conformity Assessment Methods for Imports and Exports” and “Conformity Assessment for Energy Labels of Equipment and Buildings”, led by INSO experts Dr. Ebrahim Karimi Saeidabadi and Dr. Shirzad Hassanbegi.

Opening the event, Dr. Ghasemi, Director-General of the Office for Comparative Studies and International Standards Development Participation at INSO, highlighted ECO-RISCAM’s mission to harmonize standards, conformity assessment procedures, accreditation, and metrology practices across ECO Member States to facilitate regional trade and reduce technical barriers. She further called on those Member States that have not yet ratified the ECO-RISCAM Statute to complete the required legal procedures to accelerate the full establishment of the RISCAM Institute.

Following her remarks, Mr. Can Aygül, Director for Agriculture and Industry at ECO Secretariat, in his opening remarks, underscored the importance of such workshops for capacity building and for promoting the harmonization of technical regulations, which are essential for smooth trade across the region. He further noted that conformity assessment is not only a technical requirement but also a foundation for cross-border cooperation.

The workshop brought together more than 40 participants from ECO Member States, including Iran, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Kazakhstan.
