On April 23, 2026, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Dr. Asad M. Khan, met with H.E. Mr. Yermek Kosherbayev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in Astana. The meeting focused on deepening cooperation, enhancing trade and economic ties, and improving transport and logistics across the region.
Thanking the honorable Minister for Kazakhstan’s contributions to the Organization and their successful chairmanship of ECO in 2025, Dr. Khan informed him that the Organization continues to sustain its work program despite the circumstances, and conveyed optimism that 2026 will continue on this positive momentum, with a vigorous calendar of Ministerial Meetings across member states in sectors including ICT, environment, industry, agriculture, finance, tourism and transport.
The meeting further reviewed important regional cooperation initiatives, including the ECO Trade Negotiation Committee, and strategic transport and logistics corridors, as well as other areas for expanded regional cooperation in environment, tourism, agriculture and industry.
