Tehran – August 19, 2026 

The Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in coordination with the ECO Secretariat, has successfully concluded an online training webinar on ‘Harmonized System (HS) of World Customs Organization’ aimed at strengthening customs expertise across the ECO region on 19 August 2026.

The training session brought together nearly 80 experts from customs of nine ECO Member States: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran (host), the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Uzbekistan. The session focused on deepening participants’ understanding of ‘Harmonized System, thereby supporting more accurate and effective customs procedures within the region.

The Webinar was opened with introductory remarks by Ms. Amina Batool, Director for Trade and Investment at the ECO Secretariat. In her opening remarks, she underscored importance of capacity building as an essential instrument for strengthening regional economic cooperation. She highlighted that exchange of knowledge and technical expertise among ECO Member States is one of the most effective ways of narrowing capacity gaps and supporting more efficient regional cooperation.

Mr. Abdolaziz Yousefi, head of HS Classification of Tariff Office of Iran Customs Administration, in his presentation, provided technical knowledge and gave detailed overview of the information systems of the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran and highlighted good practices in Harmonized System worldwide. The webinar provided invaluable opportunities for customs professionals by equipping them with practical knowledge and tools to refine customs procedures and enhance data exchange practices.
