On 6 October 2026, Dr. Asad M. Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), received Dr. Jean Jabbour, the newly appointed Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Islamic Republic of Iran,.
The two sides discussed the longstanding cooperation between the ECO and WHO and explored ways to further strengthen collaboration in health and promote regional health initiatives among ECO Member States.
Dr. Jabbour highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and proposed developing joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest. He also briefed the Secretary General on efforts to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations and proposed forming a joint technical team to finalize the draft.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of the ECO and WHO to enhancing institutional cooperation and advancing regional health initiatives.
