The Fifteenth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development (IFESD-15) was organized by five UN Regional Commissions in Xi’an, China, from 3 to 6 November 2026. Under the theme “Energy Transition in an Uncertain World: Driving Security, Growth and Resilience”, the Forum provided a unique platform for diverse stakeholders to identify practical pathways towards sustainable, affordable, secure and resilient energy systems.

ECO Director on Energy, Minerals and Environment, Dr. Fuad Farzalibeyov delivered the presentation on the Project on establishment of ECO Regional Electricity Market (ECO-REM) at the Expert Group Meeting on Grid Readiness for Power System Transformation in North and Central Asia, held on 5 November within the framework of the Forum. While underscoring the importance of ECO-REM for a long-term energy connectivity and sustainability in the region, ECO Director called on the potential partners to explore the possibility to support the launching and implementation of this crucial project. The Forum was instrumental in terms of stimulating networking and dialogue among key stakeholders and decision makers for ECO-REM’s advocacy.

As its outcome document, the Forum issued the Xi’an Declaration on Energy Transition, which highlights commitments to supporting enhanced regional power connectivity, inclusive energy transitions, and sustainable management of energy resources and energy transition materials.
