A bilateral meeting between H.E. Mr. Halil Ibrahim Akca and H.E. Mr Abdujabar. Abduvakhitov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held on 17 April 2017 on the margins of the 23rd ECO Council of Ministers Meeting. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour, ECO Deputy Secretary General, also attended the meeting.
During meeting, the ECO Secretary General commended the recent development of ECO relations with Uzbekistan. He stated that the Republic of Uzbekistan is one of the important members of the organization located in the middle of Central Asia in a strategic position for the connection of roads, railways and energy corridors. His Excellency also expressed that one of the cooperation area highlighted in the ECO Vision 2025 was tourism. And Uzbekistan is the country perfectly fitting to this item with its natural, historical and cultural peculiarities. He also stated that the COM took a significant step by removing the obstacle for Uzbekistan to fully participate in the ECO activities.
H.E. Mr. Abdujabar Abduvakhitov in return expressed his consent with enhancing the role of Uzbekistan in the ECO. On the issue of tourism, he also pointed out that there is no difference between the perspective of Uzbekistan and the ECO Vision. He expressed Uzbekistan’s willingness to increase cooperation on the tourism and export with neighboring countries. He also stated that Uzbekistan is looking forward for fruitful, well developed and stable cooperation in the region.
